In 1995 legislation finally came into existence for providers of outdoor activities in the UK to under-18’s in the form of the Outdoor Activity Centres (Young Persons’ Safety) Act 1995.

The Act means that every person or organisation providing outdoor activities for financial gain must be inspected by the Adventure Activities Licensing Service (AALS; formerly AALA). AALS is a part of the Health & Safety Executive (HSE).

The Trekking Company’s Registration Number is: R0043 (the Licence number changes each year)

Our licence covers: Single Pitch Rock Climbing and Abseiling, Gorge Scrambling, Hill Walking and Mountaineering (Including multi pitch and winter climbing), Kayaking & Open Canoeing on Sheltered Inland Water.

Please note that many activities do not come under the remit of this award. They include such activities as: Orienteering, Assault Courses and Abseiling on purpose built towers. These and other activities do not require a licence; however they are inspected under the ‘Adventuremark’ scheme which TrekCo also hold. This is not a statutory requirement.

Adventuremark details can be found at: www.adventuremark.co.uk

TrekCo are also accredited with the Learning Outside the Classroom Badge
