We’ve been surprised by the reaction to our becoming the 15th outdoor company in the UK to be an Approved Activity Provider for the D of E Award Scheme. There are about 20 now, but around half of these mainly offer trips abroad only, so we’re one of a small number who offer UK trips and can train and assess at all expedition levels – Bronze, Silver and Gold.
The reaction since we were listed on the D of E site last autumn has been amazing, and we have many schools booked in to run Bronze and Silver Award Expeditions in both Sussex and The Peak District.
We’ve just dedicated some of our building space in the courtyard at Deers Leap as a D of E training centre, so we can run courses there in the courtyard and on the park for new participants. The classroom and cafe there as well as 240 acres of land, half of it woods, make for an ideal location – and it’s just a short walk across the fields to our campsite at Blackland Farm.
